Every protein is specially equipped for its function. Any protein in the human body can be created from permutations of only 20 amino acids. There are seven types of proteins: antibodies, contractile proteins, enzymes, hormonal proteins, structural proteins, storage proteins, and transport proteins.

Function of each type:

Antibodies-also called immunoglobulin, a protective protein produced by the immune system in response to the presence of a foreign substance, called an antigen.

Contractile-The contractile vacuole, as its name suggests, expels water out of the cell by contracting.

Enzymes help speed up chemical reactions in the

human body.

Hormonal proteins-These proteins are secreted by endocrine cells that act to control or regulate specific physiological processes, which include growth, development, metabolism, and reproduction.

Structural proteins-These proteins provide structure and support for cells. On a larger scale, they also allow the body to move.

Storage proteins-Storage proteins serve as biological reserves of metal ions and amino acids, used by organisms.

Transport proteins-Transport proteins in the cell membrane allow for selective passage of specific molecules from the external environment.
