write a short note on types of proteins and their functions
Answers
Every protein is specially equipped for its function. Any protein in the human body can be created from permutations of only 20 amino acids. There are seven types of proteins: antibodies, contractile proteins, enzymes, hormonal proteins, structural proteins, storage proteins, and transport proteins.
Function of each type:
☆Antibodies-also called immunoglobulin, a protective protein produced by the immune system in response to the presence of a foreign substance, called an antigen.
☆Contractile-The contractile vacuole, as its name suggests, expels water out of the cell by contracting.
☆Enzymes help speed up chemical reactions in the
human body.
☆Hormonal proteins-These proteins are secreted by endocrine cells that act to control or regulate specific physiological processes, which include growth, development, metabolism, and reproduction.
☆Structural proteins-These proteins provide structure and support for cells. On a larger scale, they also allow the body to move.
☆Storage proteins-Storage proteins serve as biological reserves of metal ions and amino acids, used by organisms.
☆Transport proteins-Transport proteins in the cell membrane allow for selective passage of specific molecules from the external environment.
