Annually parliament introduces new laws that are known as unpopular laws. When these laws are not accepted by the people and are felt to be unfair they face criticism. Such laws which are unfair to any group are called controversial laws.

SHORT NOTE ON UNPOPULAR AND CONTROVERSIAL LAW

  • A law that favours one group of citizens and neglects the other group of citizens then that law is said to be Controversial law.

  • Laws which are enacted by the Parliament by the expected process but are repressive and are defied by a substantial section of society then that law is said to be Unpopular Laws.

  • Rule of law implies that all laws should be applied equally to all citizens of the country and no one should be above the law. The various manners to criticise unpopular laws and Controversial laws are through newspapers, Television, protests, meetings etc.

  • Sometimes a law can be valid according to the Constitution and thus legal, but it can proceed to be unpopular and unacceptable to people because they believe that the motive behind it is unreasonable and toxic. Hence, people might criticise unpopular and controversial laws.
