The basic Vedic texts are the Samhita “Collections” of the four Vedas: Rig-Veda “Knowledge of the Hymns of Praise”, for recitation. Sama-Veda “Knowledge of the Melodies”, for chanting. Yajur-Veda “Knowledge of the Sacrificial formulas”, for liturgy.
