Vernacular press Act was passed by Lord Litton In 1878 it is also known as Gagging Act.

According to Vernacular Press Act Newspapers in regional languages in India were not allowed to print anything against the Britishers and their policies.

The main aim of newspapers was to criticize the policies of Britishers.

So it was a kind of ban on Indian regional Newspapers.
