Friedrich Ebert, the temporary president of the German Reichstag (parliament) signed a new constitu-tion of Germany after the conclusion of the First World War. This newly approved constitution came to be recognized as the Weimar Republic. The establishment of the Weimar Republic installed the first parliamentary self-government in Germany. The Republic continued in power until the rise of Nazism in Germany under the leadership of Adolf Hitler. The Republic received the name Weimer Republic after a town of Germany called Weimer, where the new administration came into authority by a federal assembly after Kaiser Wilhelm II abdicated.
