The town planning is one of the remarkable features of the IVC.

  • IVC followed grid pattern system
  • the town were mainly divided into 2 parts except Dholavira ( which was divided into 3 parts)
  • Western part , also called upper town, was surrounded by citadel( large wall)
  • there was no citadel in the lower part
  • The western town might be for the ruling class while the eastern town might be for the working class.
  • multiple rooms and stairs were observed on the western part of the town.
  • single rooms or double rooms were observed in the eastern town.
  • Each street ran vertically and horizontally and intersected at right angles.
  • underground drainage system ran along with the main streets.
  • house drainage was connected to the sub- drains . All the sub-drains were connected to the main drain.
  • IVC people covered the drainage with stone slabs.
  • manholes were also constructed using burnt bricks.
  • street lights ( lanterns ) were set-up along the streets
  • they also dug some well along the roads for drinking purposes.

i hope this helps you .....(❛ ᴗ ❛)
