Health System in India :-

  • The public health system in India comprises a set of state-owned health care facilities funded and controlled by the government of India.

  • It can be divided into three-tier system – primary, secondary and tertiary.

  • But more than 70% of hospitals in India are run by private sector.

  • India bears 20% of the global burden of diseases, though its population is 17% of the world.

  • Even the limited government hospitals are unable to provide sufficient facilities. Thus forcing poor persons to turn to private hospital.

  • Only one-fifth of the hospitals are located in rural areas, in spite of presence of 70% population in rural regions.
