Festivals of India

India being a vast country has many festivals. Each month a new festival is celebrated. For different people, different festivals bring happiness, joy, new hope etc.

Some of the famous festivals are:

  • Holi

The festival of colours and love. Celebrated in February – March.  People play with water guns and balloons which are filled with colourful water. It starts in the evening of Purnima( the Full Moon Day) in the month of Falgun.

We know that colour is made up of harmful chemicals. But we should play eco-friendly Holi with natural colour and play with full safety.

  • Diwali

The festivals of lights. People decorate their house with diyas, candles, lights, distributing sweets, burning crackers etc. Celebrated on new moon day. Symbolises "The victory of good upon evil". On the occasion of Lord Rama’s return with his wife after 14 years of exile and his triumph over Ravana.

We should not burn crackers and celebrate safe and happy Diwali.

  • Dussehra

Dussehra marks the end of Navratri also Durga Puja. Vijayadashami is the popular name for it in a calender. Because of the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana, the model of Ravana is burnt. Celebrated between October – November.

And other festivals are-

  • Janmashtami
  • Ganesh Chaturthi
  • Eid-ul-Fitr
  • Christmas
  • Maha Shivratri
  • Rakshabandhan
  • Onam
  • Gurpurab
