MAHATMA GANDHI

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi  was the leader of the Indian independence movement against British rule. He is also called "Father of Nation".

He was born on October 2, 1869 in a town called Poxbandar, Gujarat. He was the architect of India's freedom and one of the greatest men of this century. Mahatma Gandhi's life was dedicated to the ideals of truth, non-violence and love.

Mahatma Gandhi stayed on in South Africa for nearly 21 years to fight against racial discrimination against Indian settlers. He propagated the concept of Satyagraha (satya means truth and agraha firmness). It was the use of 'Soul-Force' against 'Brute-Force' or violence.

Gandhiji came back to India in 1915 and built an ashram on the banks of the Sabaramati river near Ahmadabad. It was called 'Satyagraha Ashram'. The way of life that he practised there was known as 'Sarvodaya' the well-being of all. He fought peacefully for many causes and succeeded in persuading the government to abolish many abuses against labourers in Bihar, the Kaira peasants in Gujarat, etc.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869 in a respectable vaishya family of Porbandar state in kathiabad. His parents were well- to- do people, his father Karamchand uttamchand Gandhi held high and responsible post in the Porbandar state.


He received his early education at the local primary and high school. After passing an entrance examination he went to England to qualify himself for legal profession. He was truthful and honest from is very childhood he was very careful about his character.


Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest son of India. Nay, he was one of the greatest man in the world has ever produced. He was great not because of his politics, his greatness lies in his moral outlook of life.


Mahatma Gandhi succeeded in bringing about the political celebration of India, he wanted to see the Supremacy of truth and nonviolence in the world world. Unfortunately future of the world can be safe only when you choose the path shown by him. Any other course is perilous.


He was shot dead while going to attend a prayer meeting on the 30th January 1948 at Delhi, India. The whole world is poorer today an account of his death.
