Mary and Anand had been in love for
two years now. Their parents had declined to their marriage. The couple had
tried every possibility to convince their parents for the marriage; however,
the orthodox parents abetted by society had told them categorically it was
impossible.
Now the couple had no other option
but to elope. Anand made a plan that he would row his beloved sweetheart to the
distant island where people with progressive mentality lived.
He arranged a boat and fixed it
with Mary to reach a secluded quay where he would be waiting for her in the
dark of moonless night.
Mary reached the quay at the fixed time
with the few belongings she had. They put their meager provisions in the boat
and set off to the distant island joyously to start a new life.
As the boat was heading to the
island of their fulfillment, the weather changed suddenly. Strong gale began to
blow and gigantic waves began to roll and rise. Their tiny boat was trapped in
the storm. Anand tried very hard to row it to the shore but alas! It appeared
as if the sea was against their happiness.
A huge wave struck the boat; Mary flew into the air and was swallowed by the sea. Anand had managed to hung onto the boat; but seeing Mary drowning, he also jumped behind her. He tried very hard to find her in the infinite sea around him but to no avail. Finding his beloved drowned, he too let himself to be drowned. Thus the loving couple died before reaching the island of their hopes.
