'Tell It Well, Daddy!'
Sohini was a three year old girl. She was cute and bubbly. An energy storehouse it was very difficult to put Sohini to sleep . Each family member had to try his or her hand in story telling.
Sohini had a wonderful memory. Once she heard a story you could not repeat it.
Poor Grandmother, her stock of stories was soon exhausted. Then came Mother's turn. After her hard day's work the exhausted lady could hardly concoct a story.
The only one left was Father, dear Father! Daddy was a police officer. The lot fell on him to perform his domestic duty of putting Sohini to sleep and then perform all his civil duties outside.
Urgent work often kept Daddy out at night, but even then he had to find time to video call his little girl and tell her a story.
Daddy too had finished his stock of stories long ago. But being a police officer he experienced a lot of incidents which sounded like adventure stories or thrillers.
Sometimes when Daddy was too busy he would rush through his stories to finish off fast. But alas! he could not escape Sohini's critical appreciation. She would immediately scream , 'Tell It Well, Daddy!'
Days went by and Sohini grew with time. She had finished her graduation in Literature and wanted to be a writer. Her father too had aged. He had retired but his story telling saga continued as Sohini was addicted to his stories. His stories now were more philosophical sometimes mixed with mythology.
One night as Daddy was narrating a story when he suddenly stopped. His head dropped. Sohini as usual retorted, 'Tell It Well, Daddy!' But this time Daddy did not tell. He had left for the abode of the Master Story-teller who spins all our tales of life.
Sohini was heart broken. She could not sleep without her Father's story. So every night she took her pen and thanks to her memory she began to write each of the stories her Father had narrated.
Years have evolved and so has Sohini. She is now a famous writer and her magnum opus is her collection of short stories titled, 'Tell It Well, Daddy!'
