"Can you give me some bread?" The baker looked down at the ragged little boy standing in front of his shop. His hands were outstretched, waiting for a bun, a slice of cake, or even stale bread.
"Can you work?" The baker asked him. Too hungry to care, the boy nodded. The baker brought into a kitchen, and for the next two hours, he taught the boy how to bake a pie himself. Focused on the learning process, the boy soon forgot about his hunger.
After pulling the freshly baked pie out of the oven, the boy dug into it in hunger. "Doesn't this feel better? Making your own food?" The boy looked at the baker, thought for a moment, then nodded. The baker smiled. "You can stay. Continue to learn."
From that day on, the ragged little boy has became the baker's apprentice. The baker's approach at teaching him to make a livelihood for himself and not by begging has ensured he will never go hungry again.
