Moral Stories for Children
There was once a King in Raiputana and his name was Sher Singh. One day, this King lost his finger in an accident. Everyone felt sorry for him and tried to console him. His minister said, “Your Highness, whatever happens, happens for the best.”
On a certain occasion, Sher Singh went out hunting. So exciting was the chase that he went farther and farther into the forest. When it was time to return home, he found that he had lost his way.
Suddenly there were shouts. He was surrounded by a number of wild forest tribesman. They caught him and bound him with ropes. They decided to offer him as a sacrifice to their deity.
They dragged him to the place of sacrifice, took a big sword and were about to kill him. Suddenly someone noticed that Sher Singh had one finger missing. He was not fit for a sacrifice. Anything offered to the Gods must be perfect and whole. Sher Singh was not perfect.
The tribesman released him and asked him to leave. He could hardly believe his luck. Then he recalled the words of his minister, “Whatever happens, happens for the best.”
He realised the truth of these words. His accident had proved to be a blessing in disguise.
