When Nylon is under a lot of heat, it will melt and fuse. Cotton doesn't melt under a lot of heat but it may scorch. This is not an ideal method if you don't want to damage the thread though. So, you could also try...

  • Pulling on the thread. (Nylon thread stretches as cotton does not.)
  • Putting them under high amounts of light. (Nylon is sensitive to sunlight.)
  • Dunking the thread in water. (Nylon holds less water than cotton does.)
