Our National Bird Peacock :

• The Indian peacock, our national bird , is a very colourful bird.

• It's swan-sized bird.

• A peacock has white patch under the eye and a long, slender neck.

• It is usually seen that the male species is more colourful than the female.

• The female peacock is brownish, slightly smaller than the male.

• The elaborated courtship dance of the male, fanning out the tail and preening its feathers, is a gorgeous sight and people are so tempted to see that scene.

• The peacock is mainly found in the Indian sub-continent from the south and east of the Indus river, Jammu and Kashmir, east Assam, south Mizoram and the whole of the Indian peninsula.

• They are fully protected under the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

• The peacock is known as the National Bird of India as it is highly religious involvement in Indian traditions.
