Yes! I know I am a good leader. Why? I have traits and I have learned skills required to be a leader. (I also conduct sessions on leadership)

As per Dr. Paul Hersey, co-creator of Situational Leadership Model, Leadership is process of influencing people to do something which they wouldn’t have done without your influence.
If we go by definition, everyone is a leader because we all have knowingly or unknowingly influenced someone to do something which otherwise he wouldn’t have done. For example, we may have influenced our friends, family members, relatives and colleagues to do something at some point of time.
However, challenge is to make people do something in different setup consciously.
For influencing any person, Leaders needs to have certain traits and certain skills. These traits are inborn and difficult to learn and practice. However, leadership skills can be learned and practiced.
For example, getting results is a necessity in every organization. We are mostly tuned to think about the task, goals and results. But very few people really think about people working in your teams before taking any decision.
It is natural for most of us to give preference to results over people. Few think about people before taking a decision. Very rare are the leaders who can work towards getting results all the while doing good for the employees. It is a quality that comes naturally.
Another is walk the talk or practice what you preach. It is a trait very few of us have. It is inborn.
However, when we learn leadership and different styles, we can practice and incorporate those leadership skills. But those fundamental traits are inborn and difficult to inculcate.
To compare if you follow any sports or let’s say cricket, you can ask ‘Can you learn skills of a batsman or are they inborn?’
You can definitely learn the skills that are required for you to become a batsman but there is a natural flair or talent (eye hand coordination, knowing instinctively etc) that you need to become a great batsman.
I can say I have traits and skills required to be a leader.
