Hey there!

Answer:

Honourable Principal, respected teachers and all my dear friends!

Good morning!

Five hundred years ago ago, Guru Nanak Dev Ji asked " Why discriminate against those who give birth to emperors?"

It is not not shameful that in the land of Guru Nanak, the killing of female foetuses is the highest? One wonders how mothers agree to kill their children in Stomach. The result is that of the 15 districts in our country with the most unfavorable child gender ratio, 10 are in Punjab.

The male centric mindset is the main culprit. People in Punjab and elsewhere are still driven by age old preference to sons over daughters. They consider girls as liabilities and boys are assets. Dowry's demands, fears regarding property rights, insecure environment for women and parents dependence on sons during old age are all important factors.

But time has changed. We need to change our mindsets. Think of role of women in life. They have proved to be better than men in many fields. A well educated and well settled daughter needs no dowry. And she looks after her aged parents better than a son can do.

The problem of female foeticide can be solved not by passing laws but by changing our mindsets. By spreading social awareness about it and by educating the girl child, we can better tackle the problem. Of course, those who resort to female foeticide should be severely punished and even hanged.

Thank you.

There are people who believe that in a male-dominated society, female safety issues are immense and since bringing up girls involves trouble, boys are an easy option.

Beti-Bachao activities include rallies, posters, short-videos and television commercials, some of which are sponsored by state and local governments and other organisations. Many celebrities in India have publicly supported the Beti-Bachao campaign.
