Language is a vital tool for communication. It is not only a means of communicating thoughts and ideas, but it builds friendships, economic relationships and cultural ties. We can communicate only with signs without language. More over a language distinguishes the differences and also celebrates the uniqueness of cultures in a country or in a region or in a community. A Language shapes the way people perceive the world and it also helps to define culture of any society. Any language is a gift the knowledge of more than one language makes a man more efficient and skilful in many ways. It opens our minds and guides us into a magical world of fancies and dreams. To certain the proper learning of language helps us to develop ourselves, our minds, and also our personality. Human language is unique because it is a symbolic communication system that is learned instead of biologically inherited for some people.

When the British started ruling India, they searched for educated Indian mediators who could help them to administer India. The British Government turned to high caste Indians to work for them It was said then in England “Indians in blood and color but English in taste, in opinions and morals and intellect”Even today the schools in India that give importance to English are considered better schools and the same is the case at university level

The study of English language in this age of globalization is essential. English language is the most important language of communication between different countries in India. People of different states have their own language. English Language has come to us as a connecting link among various states of India.

English serves as a window to the world. It is known to ail that the legacy of English language has left an indelible imprint on the Indian psyche. Hence we can’t deal with English just as a foreign language. Secondly, the entire spectrum of education and philosophy, science and technology can be better understood through this language. The common practice all over the world in the modern age is to learn English language to facilitate easy understanding of political, social, cultural and religious issues because this language is easier than French, German, Greek and Sanskrit. English is the language of the British. Who kept us enslaved for about two centuries? English has emerged as the most important global language. It is a wrong view to hold that it is a language of the British alone. English evolved to be a language of science and technology. Majority of all important books for higher studies are written in English, ‘Me Indians must not keep their eyes closed in this adventurous period of globalization.
