Answer:

The status of women in India has undergone a gradual yet dramatic change. No longer women are confined only to their homes. According to the Indian constitution, women are equal to men in all respects. Women work shoulder to shoulder with men in every field or work.

The position of women in India- past and present: We are proud of Mrs.Indira Gandhi, Dr.Muthulakshmi Reddy, kalpana Chawla, Sunitha Willliams, Sania Mirza, Kiran Bedi, Indira Noygi, Mrs.Chinnapillai, Mother Teresa, Arundati Rai and the list is long one. As we are talking pride of all these and many more women achievers, we should not forget the darker side of the society. Unfortunately, still in India, people practice (female) infanticide, and inequality in the treatment between boys and girls, dowry system, property issues and this list is longer than the previous. India is still a developing nation and not a developed one. It is due to the fact that empowerment of women is still in its infancy.

The Biased attitude: Though we are proud that women are working in almost all the fields, yet economic independence is not prevalent among women. In the field of education also boys are given more education though year after year Board Examination in 10th and 12th prove that girls are more promising than boys.

The dual role of women: The discrimination done to women is relatively a modern concept, since in ancient days, women were treated with respect and reverence. The saddest tale is of working women's. They play a dual role-working, career women as well as home makers.

The steps to be taken: We, all should resolve to uplift the life of women. For this, the attitude of our society towards women should change for the better. Women and men are the two different sides of a cart. They have to move along smoothly for the prosperity and progress.
