Hello, I’m Lucy O’Reilly, I am currently one of your Societies Officers. My role involves supporting and representing Societies and Clubs in the SU, something I intend to continue in the upcoming year if voted in as General Secretary.
As General Secretary I will endeavor to provide a link between the student body and the meetings of the Students’ Union. I plan on doing this through prompt uploading of the meeting minutes to the SGSU website, making them available to all students.
To promote transparency between the SU and Student body I will start a weekly update of the Executives activities via a video blog. This will involve a weekly 30-second video with an update on the Executives progress. This will allow the student body to gain a better understanding of what the Executive team do for them and hopefully encourage people to get involved with the SU.
Fielding emails and enquiries is another big requirement of the General Secretary role. Given my experience balancing working in the Union and my studies I believe I will be able to efficiently manage this workload with T-year next year whilst providing a high standard of service to the SU.
As one of the Societies Officers this year, I have seen the need for a more efficient method of handovers for Societies and Clubs. I would like to see an online system implemented for storing the Handovers and Constitutions using the website. This will allow easier access to information about the committees and constitutions of current Societies and Clubs. This would mean all the information is stored in one easily accessible place for online reference.
