Developed Countries ' Apathy to Climate Change and its Consequences
Respected Principal and dear friends,
I am here to explain that even in the era of globalisation, the discrimination between the so-called First World countries and the Third World countries is raging with the same force as it was during the era of imperialism and colonialism. Take the case of a new political accord signed by world leaders at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark. That conference could not provide a clear path for a treaty with commitments due to a show of power by the developed countries. According to the treaty signed between the two world groupings, the countries of the First World had to reduce emission level of up to 80% but, in the final document, the whole commitment was seen effaced. It prima facie reveals the biased attitude of powerful nations even in the matter of global concern at the UN conference. Instead of reducing emission as per draft proposal of the protocol, these countries including China and USA, have imposed an obligation on Third World countries, including India, to monitor, report and verify every year the rise in the emission levels of toxic gases. Rich countries have again bargained to mobilise $100 billion a year by 2020 to compensate the loss that will be caused to developing countries due to the unchecked emission level.
Hope it helps!
