Respect for superiors is being ignored by most of the youngsters today. Respect is really needed for a society to work well. Children are usually thought by their parents about what it is to respect elders and to the established authority, but it is disturbing to see that many youngsters are not sensitive towards elderly people nowadays. In these days of rapid technological change, youngsters are reluctant to accept their elders' traditional thinking. When elders do their best to give advice, youngsters basically neglect their elders' good intentions. It is trully heartbreaking to see that elderly folks are being mistreated and disrespected. The lack of respect for elders among youngsters can be seen evidently in our society. Youngsters do not recognise the achievements of their elders and feel that elders are blocking their progress. Given the situation, that lack of proper character education is a core problem. Many times, parents and other adults allow negative influences to be unnessecarily placed in front of youngsters. Youngsters are also growing up in an environment whereby everything is provided, so they forget that everything they have is due to elders' sacrifices in the past. These young people demand respect before respecting their elders. It is very inapporpriate to do so as elders deserve respect simply bacause they are the ones who contribute to what the present generation enjoy today. Elders are our backbones, and in them is where we seek hope, help and happiness. As this present generation becomes self-centered, the behaviour of young people towards elderly people is a cause for concern. Every youngster has to value the moment they have with elders.
