Answer:

Joy Of Living In

the lap of nature

Living in the lap of nature is a bliss. The treasures of nature are never

empty. Only we have become insensitive to nature. This 'world is too much with

us'. We don't have eyes to behold and hearts to feel the joys of nature. My

recent visit to Kerala was a memorable one. I was in the Wordsworthian paradise

for a week. There is nothing more beautiful in India than the rural setting in

Kerala. Every inch of rural Kerala is lush green. Coconuts and canals dominate

the whole scene. Kerala is by far the greenest state in India.

The most fascinating parts of rural Kerala are its backwaters. I was a guest of

my Keralite friend, Ramesh Cherian. He lives in Attappu, a small village about

35 miles south of Cochin. It is situated on the coast of Arabian Sea. Cherians

are the biggest landlords in the village. They own about fifty acres of arable

land. There is nothing more enjoyable than basking on the warm sands of the beach

on a clear wintry day. The surf and the sea lift you to a fairyland. The

rustling of palms and coconuts and the twittering of the sea-birds refresh

your mood and mind. Cherians are good fishermen. I was fortunate to be a member

of the fishing party for a few hours. We had a good catch. But the most

fascinating part of the stay was the journey through backwaters in a house

boat. With the huts, palms and coconuts on both sides of the canals and small

lakes, you feel as if you are in Venice. It was a week-long stay. It was

refreshing as well as educative. I was fortunate to enjoy both- Kerala's beauty

and its hospitality.
