Self Reliance “ Ask me for help if you need it,” is something many teachers say to students. Should students accept help or be self reliant? This is a world-wide question, but can be expressed in many ways. The main question is should people take the “handout”, or work extremely hard to achieve their goal. People should be more self reliant. This will benefit them in the long run by making them feel more confident, help them become their best self, and help them develop better, and eliminate regret. First and foremost, being self reliant helps a person become more confident. Confidence is the ability to be oneself around basically anyone and not be ashamed. This could be very difficult for some people but is easier to accomplish with self reliance. When I was younger I was not big on confidence. It was very difficult for me too truly be myself around others. No one had ever really let me be on my own though. I had to learn to do things on my own, and it was difficult at first. I soon learned afterwards that I like being independent, it gave me something I never had before, confidence. I could be myself around others and make decisions based on what I wanted, not what others want me to do or be.
