labour is the existing form of slavery. It has been in existence for centuries in most parts of the world. The uneven social structure characterised by the age-old feudal system, has led to the emergence of the bonded labour. It was on outcome of socio-economic problem of surplus labour, un/under-employment, low wages, etc. It is a system in which generations of workers work to repay a documented debt of a parent or grandparent or even a great grandparent. Most of the bonded labourers are found in the agricultural and allied sectors.
The productive relationship between India and ILO is as old as ILO. I take this opportunity to convey the appreciation of Govt of India for this unique tripartite forum which has been working towards its founding mission that social justice is essential to universal and lasting peace.
We appreciate the way that ILO has adopted itself to the emerging challenges and concerns in the world of work.nIndia is one of the fastest growing economies of the world. We continue to maintain a high growth rate of 7.6% in 2015-16. We have one of the biggest domestic market and demand in our country. We understand our responsibility in the global order and are committed to work towards an equitable and inclusive society.
