The Lake
It was a winter morning. I wanted to feel the chill winter breeze of the morning and therefore I ventured out for a walk.
I ducked my head under the tunnel as I headed towards the lake. I had grown up watching and enjoying the lake. The creepy woods surrounded the lake. It was always covered by a blanket of darkness because of the tall trees blocking the sun.
I really hated that tunnel. It was full of algae and it was so moist in there that water kept dripping from the ceiling. I came out of the tunnel and went near the lake edge of the lake and sat there. The sand had disappeared because of the layer of snow covering it.
The lake was frozen since it was January. The odd thing was that the lake would usually freeze around November and melt before new year.
Something caught the edge of my eye. I looked at the lake but nothing was there. It was weird because no one had seen fish or any other creature down there for the past 10 years. They say that there was a huge spill of tar. All the creatures that lived down there had floated to the surface, with all of their eyes missing.
There is a rumor that there was a man down there when the tar was spilt. His body was never seen again. Suddenly, a noise came came from the further end of the lake. I looked over there and saw a human-like figure bursting out of the frozen lake.
It was very horrifying. I tried to start running, but my body was frozen. I was staring into its deep, cold, red eyes. It had a huge chunk of its head missing. I looked down in horror. It had fingers and toes missing. It was rotten and still rotting. There was little worms going through its ears and coming out of the other one.
We both were staring at each other for at least half-a-minute when it suddenly started moving toward me. At that moment, a rustle came from the part of the woods which was behind the creature.
I saw Mr. Chase there distracting it. I felt free the moment it took its eyes off of me. I raced the tunnel as fast as I could. The creature was too huge to enter the tunnel so I knew I was safe as soon as I made it through the tunnel.
I made it! I ducked my head and started going through it. I could feel the cold water dripping on my neck and going down my back. I ran towards the front door and went in and slammed the door behind me.
I told my parents all about it and they said “It is safe here.” They consoled me and left me in the living room for me to to watch some TV and cool down.
After that horrible day, I never went near that lake ever again.
