Tom had been looking for a job in vain. He had recently graduated with a computer science degree from MIT. He tried applying for a job in several companies. All of them had turned him down.
His parents had encouraged him to volunteer at the local community centre.
Tom however was a very ambitious young man, and he wanted to get rich fast. He was envious of his best friend Oliver. Oliver had purchased a large mansion and two cars already. Tom could not understand how his best friend had managed to succeed in such a short time.
Tom approached his friend for help. He wanted Oliver to give him the secrets to his success. Oliver told Tom that he would help him out.
Oliver gave Tom two large sealed envelopes. Tom was to deliver them to an address that would be sent to his smartphone. They did this for a couple of years, and they both became very rich. However, Tom did not know that they were laundering money for a drug cartel.
The cartel came looking for Tom one day. Oliver had stolen a million dollars from them, and they wanted it back. Tom could not believe that he had been working for a cartel all along.
The cartel offered him a deal to smuggle drugs for them. Tom politely declined the offer. He knew that once bitten twice shy.
