Charlie Chaplin once said “A day without laughter is a day wasted.” Oh how very true this is. But even better than that, a day that a child does not laugh is a sad day for us all. All children should laugh every day. Laughing can be contagious. How many times have you seen a child laugh and not get a smile on your face or even break out into a make your side hurt laugh. Laughing is joyous. When I see a child laughing it makes me happy. Children have a way of teaching us all to laugh at our mistakes, laugh at each other and to lighten up and to enjoy life. I love to hear the sound of a child laughing uncontrollably. To me there is no greater joy. If there were no more laughter in the world, the world would die.

Children will laugh at the simplest thing that makes them happy. They laugh at themselves, the dog, their friends and they laugh as they make believe in their playing. It is so easy for most children to laugh. My children laugh all throughout the day at various things. I make sure that my children have reasons to laugh. I hope that they remember the power of laughter as they get older and continue to laugh as they go into adulthood. My children are in the playroom right now laughing and bringing a smile to my face.

The sad thing is that there are too many children in this world who do not know what it is like not to laugh. Too many children worried about where their next meal is coming from, where they are going to sleep tonight, or are the ones taking care of their parents instead of the parents taking care of them. Every child has the right to laughter and should not have to worry about these things. It makes me sad to think that there are children in this world who do not have reason to laugh, some who have never known the power that a good laugh can have on the soul.

I believe that every child should be free to laugh every day and should be able to be a child.
