The all three children had lost their mother recently.All villagers decided to adopt the children. Maggie's brother and sister were adopted but Maggie being hurt was unable to even move from her place so no one was ready to take her to their home.
Everybody was leaving when Mr Thompson came to the spot, he took pity on the poor little girl and took her to his house.
They were just reaching the house.Mrs Thompson saw the two coming and got very angry.Mr Thompson landed Maggie in a bedroom in his house and requested Mrs Thompson to stay calm and tomorrow he will carry Maggie to the poor house and then Mr Thompson left to work to his garage.
The same night when he returned back he found Mrs Thompson talking with Maggie in a comfortable way.Mrs Thompson no longer seemed angry on the little one.
At dinner time they dropped the idea of taking Maggie to the poor house and Maggie stayed there the rest of her life.
