THE HONEST WOODCUTTER
Once there lived a trustworthy woodcutter who lead a simple yet honest life. He earned his living by selling the wood that he obtained by cutting trees. One day, while he was cutting a tree beside a river, his axe slipped out of his hand into the deep water of the river. Being the only one axe he had with him, he became extremely worried about how he would acquire another. Therefore, he sat down under the tree and prayed sincerely to god whom he expected to help him. The water god rose up from the river asking the woodcutter what he desired. The woodcutter requested the water god to return him his only treasure that helped him to earn his living. The water god was moved by his pitiful condition and offered to help him. He put his hand deep into the water and took out a silver axe asking the woodcutter if it belonged to him. The woodcutter answered negatively. The second time the water god came up with a golden axe.This time the water god stated the value of the golden axe but still the woodcutter didnot accept it. At last when the water god brought up the iron axe, the woodcutter shouted in joy in view of his own axe. The water god was satisfied by the woodcutters honesty and decided to gift him all three axes.
Moral of the story: Always be honest. Honesty is always rewarded.
