One day, as I was getting ready to appear for an interview, I realized that my lucky shirt was still in the laundry. There was be no way that I could get it washed and ironed on time. So, I wore another shirt and stepped out. Needless to say, I was a bit upset that I did not get the shirt ready earlier.
I had just turned into the parallel street when an elderly man waved at me requesting to stop. I was already a bit late and a bit hesitant to stop. However, I slowed down the car near him. He asked me if I could drop him at a specific place as his car had broken down on the way. Since the place he told me was just five minutes before where I had to attend my interview, I agreed readily. He asked me my name and where I was going. I told him everything and also happened to mention about my shirt. He smiled and told me a little about himself. As he got down, he wished me all the best and I thanked him.
Imagine my surprise when I saw one of the interviewers on the panel board. It was the same gentleman whom I had given a lift. The person read my confused look and had a hearty laugh. Since the interview was the post of a social service volunteer, giving a lift was part of an assessment to check how I would serve others. He extended his hand and gave me a warm shake hand saying that I was selected for the post.
