Trick of The Trade
The toll officer noticed Vedant coming along with his donkey. The officer had often seen Vedant come to the town from outside. He always suspected that Vedant was up to some mischief and that he might be smuggling something regularly without paying his toll tax.
The officer decided that he had to find out what was going on and catch Vedant red handed with whatever that he was smuggling in the town. So the official stopped Vedant as he reached the border of the town.
“ Where are you coming from ? And what have brought with you ? ” Officer asked.
“ Why do you suspect me, officer ? ” Vedant smiled ruefully at the tax collector and said, “ I am just an ordinary man. Fresh green grass grows by the riverside away from our town, so I sometimes go there to get it for my donkey.” He pointed at the bundle of the grass tied on the back of the donkey.
“ I don't believe you, ” The tax collector shook his head, “ I'll have to search it. ” Saying so, he took down the bundle, opened it and checked it thoroughly. But he did not find anything. “ See ? Didn't I tell you ? ” Vedant said triumphantly and entered in the town.
The same thing happened again and again, but the tax collector was bent upon finding out what Vedant was up to. So every time Vedant came from outside, the officer stopped him and did a thorough checking of his belonging. sometimes he checked each blade of the grass, hoping to find some hidden gems or diamonds. Or sometimes he checked Vedant's clothes and the small food sack that he carried with him. Every time the result was the same, nothing was to be found.
The official got more and more suspicious, because he could see that Vedant was prospering by each passing day and his new clothes spelt money. Finally the officer retired from the government job . But even at home he always wondered what trick Vedant use to deceive him ? Where did he hide his smuggled goods? Should he have checked the donkeys mouth ? or his ears ?
Then one day, the ex-officer met Vedant in the market. “ I just can't just sustain my curiosity anymore, ” He said, “ Now I am no more a government officer, so don't worry about me exposing you, but I have to know what did you smuggle all these years ? ”
Vedant simply replied, “Donkeys.” and walked away.

asked about the reason to come
out but officer pretended to be
normal routine and asked driver to
come out.Now driver was
pretending to be normal although
his nervousness can be seen
clearly on his face. Toll officer
checked the truck and it was loaded with explosives. The person was behind the bars now.
