They didn't mean to, but in an attempt to a time travelling machine, they discovered an alternate universe and were accidentally trapped there.
Everything got reversed and they got trapped in a dark unknown world. They couldn't find any water or food around but just big rocks. It seemed like a totally different planet having no means of survival.
They tried to turn the time machine and return to their universe but failed. At last one of them kicked the time machine in anger and suddenly they got back to their own world. It was surprising but they vowed never to attempt such things again in the future.
