Explanation:
I had gone to my tuition classes in the evening. The weather had been pleasant at that time but when I came out from the class to go home, suddenly it became dark the minute I boarded the bus. The bus trundled through the narrow lanes. it had been exceptionally hot that evening and now it was unbearably humid. The clouds had gathered in the sky but it just wouldn't rain. I was expressing my gratitude to the almighty for finding me a seat on this packed bus. Fat women sat wedged in with each other while men jostled for space to stand. I was on my way back home from English tuition, looking forward to a nap.
Just then, a child appeared in front of me. He seemed unaccompanied, about twelve years in age from what I could gauge from his height. His back was turned to me so I could not see his face. It was an uncomfortably hot day, the bus was hurtling down the empty streets and grown men were hanging on from the rods for dear life. I took pity on the child and pulled him on to my lap thinking it would be tough for him to stand. He wasn’t tall enough to hang on to the rods that hung from the roof of the bus.
But just as suddenly, he began to squirm and squiggle on my lap. I tried holding on to him with all my force but he pushed me back and jumped out of my lap. Then he turned around and I saw it wasn’t a child! It was a grown man of small height, a dwarf.
My cheeks reddened in embarrassment as all my co-passengers began to laugh. The dwarf stalked off in fury to the other side of the bus. I withdrew into my seat and grinned at my own foolishness.
