Explanation:
Once a upon a time there was a very proud king. The king would often send people who did not agree with him to prison. One day the king summoned a notorious swindler to his palace. The swindler refused to obey the king.
The king ordered him to be sent to prison. He was handed ten years in prison. As a prisoner, he found that life in the gallows was very difficult. He reflected on all the adventures he had swindling people. He always though that people were very foolish. They often parted with their gold coins easily. He smiled as he thought about the proverb 'A fool and his money are soon parted'
The swindler had swindled the king's treasury as a challenge. Unfortunately he had been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He knew that the prison was not well guarded, and he hatched an escape plan.
He had obtained a blueprint for the prison by bribing a guard. He had then obtained the key to his prison door from another inmate who had been in the prison for twenty years. He had planned meticulously.
One night there was a very bad storm. He had found a perfect time to escape to freedom. He silently opened his door and crept out. He had found a narrow opening on the rafters of the armoury.
The guards had been playing a game of cards, and they did not notice him. They were cracking jokes and sipping hot tea. The prisoner escaped and found refuge in Bishop's cottage nearby.
The Bishop was a very old man, and he welcomed him in. The Bishop lived alone in the small cottage. He learnt many things from the Bishop. However, he felt that life was waiting to give him another shot at adventure. One day, he went to the Bishops chest and stole several silver candle sticks.
He was caught when he tried to sell the candle sticks. They all bore the insignia of the church. The Bishop was called and asked to prescribe punishment for the unrepentant prisoner. The Bishop however felt pity for the prisoner and forgave him. He also gave the prisoner the candle sticks as a gift. The prisoner was very grateful, and he went away to start a new life. He swore to become honest from that day.
