TITLE: THE DISHONEST FRIEND

Once there was a clever, quick-witted monkey who lived on a mango tree which was just on the banks of a river and a crocodile who lived in the same river. The monkey and the crocodile became the best friends in a very short time. The monkey used to give fresh and ripe mangoes to the crocodile every day.

Once the crocodile took some mangoes for his wife. Marveled by the taste of the delicious mangoes, she expresses her desire of eating the monkey’s heart to her husband who, in return, exclaimed, “How can you say such a thing about my best friend!” The wife, filled with a bundle of emotions, said, “So, I see that you chose that monkey over me.” The crocodile was forced to invite the monkey.

The crocodile reached the tree and invited the monkey to his place. The monkey accepted the invitation. On reaching the middle of the river, the crocodile informed the monkey of his wife’s intentions. The monkey, though scared, did not express his fear in front of the crocodile, instead made a quick plan. He told the crocodile that the monkeys never carry their hearts with them and so he had kept his heart in the hole of his tree. Fooled by the monkey’s clever wit, the crocodile took the monkey back to the tree. As soon as they reached, the monkey quickly jumped onto the tree. The monkey then said, “Hey fool! the heart of a living being cannot be separated from the body!”
