The Lost child is devoted to the child who is the source of all action in the story. The story opens with a description of the fair which the child is going to enjoy in the company of his parents.

As the story develops, we see different fascination of child. The child demands all the thing but he becomes a pitiable character when all his desires are dashed to the ground by his parents.

The child becomes an object of our sympathy when he lost his parents. Now all the attractive things lose interest for him. He wants only his parents. The child grows stronger in our eyes as the story develops. Indeed, the title of the story is quite apt.

A worker of art as a novel, poem, drama or story usually has the theme on which it revolves. The theme of the story "The Lost child" has the central idea that parents are most valuable for a child. No doubt, parents do not fulfill all the demands of the children but it does not mean that they are not well wishers of their children. If they say "NO" it has a positive meaning.

In this story we find how child goes on requesting one thing after the other. He wants to get a flower basket, sweets, balloons, toys etc. He requires these things when the parents are with him but when he lost his parents, life become dull and sad the man offers him all the things which he wanted from his parents but he goes on weeping and crying. "I want my mother! I want my father!" This clearly shows that parents have the greatest value in the eyes of the children.
