Answer:

The excess of water in an area which is not used to having so much water or is relatively dry is called flood. Floods cause havoc in many regions of India every year during the monsoon season. However, not much is done to prevent these floods which lead to vast destruction in both rural and urban areas. That is why the students should understand what floods are all about, how are they caused and what can be done in order to minimise the damage caused due to floods. Taking this into account we have come up with long essays for children to help them understand this otherwise natural disaster

But it was an ordinary flood. It was so powerful, in fact it took everyone by surprise. ... The floods rose over creeks, onto roads and into houses. Families tried very quickly to keep the water from coming into their homes, using towels and sand bags, but as the flood was bigger than they expected, it continued to rise
