Answer:

I joined an adventure club during the summer holidays. We assembled at a small hamlet(village) near the National park. I had carried safety gear, the trek was about to begin. The club consisted of about 15 members. We were instructed by our guide to check all our equipment and keep a walkie-talkie in our hand so that we could contact each other in case any one of us lost our way. And so we started! As we crossed the hamlet and reached the edge of the jungle, I had an uneasy feeling in my stomach. Looking at the dense, dark forest that lay before me, I feared something bad might occur. I hesitantly pushed away such uncomfortable thoughts. I was with a considerably large group. What could possibly go wrong? ......

I was the last in the group, which walked in a single line. We entered the forest and were immediately engulfed by darkness. Only the torches we carried with us showed us the way forward. I looked above and saw a tiny beam of sunlight, miles above form the forest floor, where we were walking. Surrounding us were a variety of mosses, lichens and numerous other plants, all having vibrant colours. The chirping of birds could be heard in the distant background. But to our surprise, no animals were to be found. As we moved on, I heard a muffled growl. I turned front to tell my friend about this, but no one was there ! I took out my walkie-talkie and spoke - "Hello! Is anybody there. Can your hear me?" But I only recieved a buzzing sound from the walkie-talike. It was transmitting, but no one was receiving it. I scanned all around, but no one was to be found. I bit my lip nervously and in front of my eyes flashed all the dangerous possibilities that were waiting to take place. Just then, a twig cracked behind me and I turned to see a fresh pawprint on the mud behind me.

I shivered in fright and my heart was beating wildly. The muffled growls I had heard previously were becoming louder and stronger. I heard a claw scratching the ground and I looked to see a fully grown cheetah in front of me! I stifled a scream and gathered my senses. It suddenly struck me! All of the trekkers had been provided with flares to signal our locations even in the deepest reaches of the jungle. The cheetah slowly moved towards me.I felt for the flare and brought it out. It lunged at me and I ducked to escape from its outstretched claws. I quickly uncapped the flare and it ignited and sent a stream of crimson flying into the sky. The cheetah, frightened by the sound of the explosion and the fiery light, beat a hasty retreat. After a 15 minute tense wait, I was rescued by our guide and we returned to the village to rest for the day. During the night, as we sat around the campfire and silently ate, I looked on into the jungle, where I knew a cheetah was still walking about...
