Explanation:

What does "No pain, no gain" mean to you? It's a part of the spiritual path for some.

Don’t miss vaccination. Lockdown diseases, not childhood.

Hardships are part of life, and through facing adversity we can reveal our potentials for growth and benefiting our and others life.

But the above statement associating pain with gain is a false indicator. It can mislead some people into seeking pain itself, thinking that this is a necessary condition for knowledge and wisdom. Some even sleep on nails…This is not a spiritual practice, it is foolishness.

Nichiren Buddhism is based on the Lotus Sutra which brings the possibility to attain enlightenment in one’s lifetime - not after many lifetimes of pain and austerities, as in Pre-Lotus teachings:

“… through the Lotus Sutra, people need neither practice austerities for countless kalpas nor wait for rebirth in a different physical form (provisional teachings hold that women must be reborn as men and then practice for innumerable kalpas in order to become Buddhas)”.

Explanation:

There was a farmer. He had vast lands. He was, however, not happy. His sons were lazy and good-for –nothing. When he was about to die, he sent for them and told them that there was a treasure hidden in their fields. The sons were eager to know this. “Where is it hidden, father?” They enquired, the father remained mum. Soon after he died. The sons went to the fields.

They dug the fields knee deep, but to their despair, they did not find any treasure. The fields were now ready and therefore they sowed wheat. In course of time, they had a rich harvest and they became rich by selling the crop. They now understood what their wise father meant. They became hard-working and gave up their idle pursuits. Moral : No pains, no gains.
