Day 1 of Lockdown: Every muscle and sinew is wired to rush to school, to welcome the team to a new year, embrace the new ones in our fold, hear the laughter of children ring through, fill the corridors with shouts and cheers. There will be a day for that, the good times will return and walking into the school will be nothing short of a celebration!
I don’t suppose we as educators will ever take these simple joys of life for granted.
Is this situation unpredictable? I am not so sure. The history of humankind tells us we have always been quite vulnerable.
Unprecedented, shocking and mysterious, yes the Coronavirus pandemic is a once-in-a-100-years event.
And we have no memories of such a transformational experience in our lives and no memories of mistakes made in such events that may teach us what to do or not to do, to grow from and be ready to deal with a predicament such as this -- none.
