On October 4, we all were decorating our house to celebrate the most long awaited festival, diwali. My heart was filled with excitement to meet my father after a long gap of six years. But, a call from the army headquarters left us stunned.

I took the call eagerly thinking it would be my father. But, it was Mr Raj, my father’s colleague speaking. Uncle told us that my father had to report to another army cap for an emergency requirement and so would not be home for Diwali. This upset all of us and we were in no mood to proceed with the decoration. All of a sudden, we heard our gate open and the bell wring. We were shocked to see my father and Raj at the front door. Raj uncle laughed at my surprised face and said that they were just fooling us.

On October 4, we all were decorating our house to celebrate the most long awaited festival Diwali. My heart was filled with excitement to meet my father after a long gap of six years. But, a call from the army headquarters left us stunned.

It was Brigadier Saxena who had called. He told us that my Dad will not be able to make it. Uncle told us that there was an emergency in the neighboring army camp and that a few army personnel had been sent there on deputation. My father was one of them. All of us were quite upset and stopped the decoration work. I was also quite upset and ran to my room. Although I tried to console myself by reading my favorite novel, my mind was full of thoughts of what I had planned to do with my Dad.

Suddenly, I heard the gate opening followed by the doorbell ringing. I was in no mood to go and see who it was. Suddenly, I heard my mother shout Raj in excitement. I could not believe my ears. Raj was my father’s name. I rushed to the hall to see my father standing there. He picked me up in his arms and gave me a big hug. He then explained that it was not Brigadier Uncle but himself who had spoken in Uncle’s voice to fool us.
