(a) Where there is a will, there is a way

Generally, all of us have a goal in life which we work to achieve; however, the final goal is achieved only by the people who have strong will power and work hard with complete dedication. Will power is necessary to create a way of surety of getting goal in life. Most of us do not succeed in life as they don’t have strong determination and will towards achieving the goal. The meaning of this English proverb ‘where there is a will there is a way’ is when we have strong will to get something in life; surely we get that in future. Most of the people who are not determined towards their goal generally tend to curse their fate or misfortune.

But the fact of getting failure in life is that we don’t have will and dedication towards the task. We should blame ourselves and our negligence only and not our fortune. Having wish to get something is not enough; we have to work actively in right direction with strong will power.

The story of a slave and a lion shows that love begets love and one good turn deserves another. The strong and the weak, the rich and the poor need each other’s help. Therefore, cooperation is of great importance.

Once there was a slave. He was very hardworking. Unfortunately, his master was very cruel. The slave worked day and night, but his master never got pleased with his work. He did not give the slave enough food. Besides, the slave was abused and punished from time to time. He was upset. He could not bear this any longer. One day he decided to run away to some other place. He passed through a jungle. He was too hungry and tired to walk. He lay down and dozed off.

Suddenly he heard a noise. He saw a lion lying down on the ground. He was moaning with extreme pain. His paw was badly swollen as a thorn had run into it. The slave took pity on the lion and plucked out the thorn from his paw. The lion felt a great relief. Thanking the slave, the lion went away. After a couple of months, the master caught the slave. He wanted to punish him for his offense. it was decided that the slave should be thrown before a hungry lion. The slave was made to stand in an arena. A hungry lion was led by some hunters. The bystanders awaited the result.

The lion rushed towards the slave. But as soon as he came near the slave, he stopped and bowed down. The lion stood still and kept on looking at the slave. To the surprise of everyone there, the lion started licking the feet of the slave. The lion had recognized him. The lion knew that he was the same fellow who had plucked the thorn out of his paw. The slave’s master was much impressed by this incident. He set the slave free.

Long ago, in China, there lived a big businessman whose business was to sell combs. Now that he was becoming old and about to retire, he wanted to place the business into wise and able hands.

So, he called forth his three sons and instructed them, that their assignment was to sell combs in the Buddhist monastery. The sons were shocked and confused because the monks in the monastery were bald and they never grew any hair. Anyhow, the three sons went about the job that was assigned to them.

After two days, the first son reported he had sold two combs. When the father asked how, he replied, that he instructed the monks that the comb would be a valuable tool for scratching their backs in case of itching.

The second son appeared later and told that he had sold ten combs by advising the monks that the combs would help their visitors and pilgrims to comb their hair before entering the monastery, as their hair might have ruffled during the journey to the monastery.

Then the third son came out with a surprising sales figure of a thousand Combs. The father filled with happiness and anxiety asked him how he had achieved such a feat.

The third son replied, that he gave the monks an idea. The idea was, that if some of the teachings of Buddha were to be printed/embossed on the comb and given as a take away gift to the visitors and pilgrims; they will remember the teachings of Buddha on a daily basis while combing their hair.

This creative idea struck the deal.
