There lived a young boy, not more that 6 years of age, named Arnav. His father was poor man, who worked for only 7 months in a year. He had a sister, 4 years older than him. His father always showed his children that he was a very rich and a satisfied man. He fulfilled all their wishes. But actually, he was a very miserable man. He would sometimes laugh to hold on his tears. He couldn't afford much food to feed his family, so he would feed his children first and then ate the leftovers.
His children always thought he was happy, but as they grew up they began getting suspicious. Arnav had caught his dad counting his salary. He did not reveal the fact to his sister. Arnav thought to do something. One day, he walked on the street to look for a small job he could do. He asked a tea seller for a small job. The tea seller asked him, "Why do you need a job? Your father is already very rich. Anyway, there is ground nearby, where children around the age of 10, work. You can try there". Arnav went there and got the job very easily.
He concealed this fact from his father. Children there were supposed to dig the ground for the construction work. And in return they were awarded 50 rupees with free lunch. Arnav was satisfied as this amount was fairly enough for two meals a day. Arnav continued for his "job" for 2 months.
One day when he returned home from there, his father asked,"Where had you been?". Arnav replied hesitantly," F-F-Friend's Home....to p-p-play.". Father questioned, "Oh! So you play with a spade. Don't you?". Arnav's sister was confused.
He thought,"Oh no...I should better tell the truth.".
He spoke out bravely,"Father, I have been doing work. Not because you don't earn. You do earn a lot of money as you are rich. But....I just wanted to support you by earning extras. Please don't ask me to quit. Please!!!!".
Father still thought that Arnav wasn't aware of his poverty. He left room without saying anything.
Arnav's sister winked at him. It turned out that his sister already knew about her father's condition and she had secretly been writing stories and publishing them. She taught his brother, "You shouldn't hide anything from your parents. And if you do, it should be for a good cause. We aren't harming dad anyway. And don't tell father about my "job".".
Arnav was very pleased.
