My birthday was on April 5 and it was my 30th. I was quite excited about it a few months ago…thought I’d party with my friends from office on the Friday before, then I’d bring it in on Saturday with my other friends, and spend Sunday (the day of my birthday) with family.
Instead, my main worry became how to get a cake. My grandmother managed to find some tea, and I ended up cutting those. It was also kind of fitting that the whole lights out for 9 minutes at 9pm happened that day…felt like the whole country was celebrating my birthday. I had so many video calls at midnight, and so many Instagram stories dedicated to me the next day that it felt like this was the first year that people didn’t forget. It was pretty awesome to rekindle old friendships.
As a running joke, I posted a status on my Facebook telling the people on my friends list who had birthdays in lockdown that we’d party together once this is all over. It started as a joke, but now I’m thinking let’s just have one epic bash.”
Birthday During Lockdown
Birthday is a special day in anyone's life since it was the day you were born. We often celebrate this auspicious day with friend and family but during this lockdown, we can't move from one place to another. Lia was sad because her birthday was during the lockdown. Her mother told it would be all fine but still, she was upset since her friends can't come over.
Lia's mother and sister thought of making DIY decorations since a birthday party without decorations are boring. The took some coloured paper and craft material at home and started off. Her mother planned for a virtual birthday party and send the meeting details to all of Lia's friends and relatives. Later that day, Lia and her mother baked the cake together. It was indeed fun. After baking the cake Lia was exhausted and suddenly her younger sister came running and hugged Lia and gave her a greeting card. Lia was really happy. It was the best day of her life. In the evening Lia cut her cake and everyone wished her. After that everyone started playing online. Lia thought that birthday during lockdown wasn't that bad.
So we should try to make the best of everything we have. Every small thing in the world has a bit of happiness in it. Our job is to search for this happiness and enjoy.
