I pulled him out of the puddle and took him home. My mother was not happy with what I did. But, I refused to let it go and gave it a nice shower in the backyard. When Dad came home from work, my mother told him what I had done. Dad said that if I wanted to keep the pup, I had to get it vaccinated with my pocket money and keep it outside the house. It was also my duty to bathe and feed him apart from taking care of all its needs. I agreed and the pup continued to live in the backyard.

Slowly, it grew up to be a big dog. One day, we went to sleep early. Suddenly, we heard the dog bark loudly. Wondering what was wrong, we went outside. Dad had a big torch in his hands. We could see nothing and my parents blamed the dog for disturbing their sleep. As we turned to go inside, it started barking again. Suddenly, we saw a thief trying to jump out of our compound wall and escape. He could not enter the house because the door was closed. Our dog could not catch it because it was chained. But, it had alerted us. Dad managed to nab him while I called the police station. The police came over soon and took the thief into their custody. From that day, the dog was a real hero in our family. Both mother and father started showing their love on it wholeheartedly.
