The door’s hinges creaked and shrieked and the sound resounded in my mind as my face was hit with a glacial blast of icy air that carried the metallic scent of blood.
The long hallway seemed to stretch on forever I took discreet minuscule steps cutting through the onyx like darkness. At the end of the corridor lay a simple wooden door. No, on second thought, the door actually appeared to be made of scintillating silver and was cool to touch. My quivering fingers touched the door, a feather like touch. Although my touch was light, the coldness of the door sent shivers through my veins and despite t he unusually low temperature in the rooms, perspiration trickled down my back like warm soup.

The door swung open and as I stepped through, my consciousness faded. “ Will you be here tomorrow ?” asked my best comrade as she swung her legs backwards and forwards incessantly, in hopes of gaining a higher and higher altitude. Her short limbs flailed and she looked rather frivolous as she bellowed non sensical words in apparent elevation. I grinned back at her and said , “ I can’t , some of us have to study.” My tone was mocking but my words were not. All I could think about was her being the perfect kid, the goody-two shoes of the playground. Not only was she Ms.Brainy but she was also alluring with blond ringlets and clear glassy blue eyes. She huffed as she came darting to me kicking up copious mountains of sand. Her eyes were questioning as I commenced a conversation that had something to do with her being the perfect child. As she bent down to tie her shoe lace , I picked out a short, incandescent ivory knife from the wide array that I had inside the denim jacket and enshrouded it behind my back.
Her trusting eyes bore into mine as I brought the knife in a silvery arc and then blood red bloomed like a flower on her little white dress.
~Flashback ends~
I awoke in the pallid grey light of the hospital and an unsurpassable pang of pain shot through my neck. Then, as if , my limbs had a wall, I began trotting towards the door, my attempts to stop walking proved fruitless.
“How many times ?” I questioned
“Until you learn to swallow your insecurity ?” they said.
Then I continued my incessant path as the light left and the darkness enveloped me and spasms of guilt raced through my mind.
