NO PAIN, NO GAIN

There were two stones, who loved their life. They were huge in size. Once, a sculptor approached one stone and asked

"Can I make a statue out of you?"

"A statue, No way. You will hammer me, and it hurts me. Also my size will be reduced. You cannot make a statue out of me"

The sculptor was very sad. He wanted to make a statue to show his skills. So, now he approached the other stone, hoping that it would help him. He asked,

" Can I make a statue out of you? "

"Hmm, a statue, sure you can, but I have one condition."

"What is it?"

" Well, Just turn me into a beautiful one."

The sculptor readily agreed. He was very happy. So, he started hammering the stone. He beared immense pain and finally it was turned into a beautiful deity.

When, the sculptor displayed his amazing talent, to the audience, they were impressed. It was made with perfection. The manager of the district too saw the deity. He said the sculptor

" Wow, Your work is simply amazing, I would love to make a temple for this deity."

The sculptor was delighted. He lend the deity to the district manager, and earned a lot of money. A beautiful temple was built, and the deity was now treated with extreme care. The other stone which disagreed with the sculptor was now of no use, except to break coconuts on it!

“It’s not my fault”, he shouted.

The police had taken him in for questioning an hour ago and since then, they’d asked him the same questions over and over again.

“I didn’t even know who she was! I just helped her carry her luggage as she was obviously injured and she looked like she could use some help. Why am I being accused when a woman I don’t even know goes missing?”

“You’ve said this before”, the detective said coldly. “You’ve been saying the same thing for over an hour. How much more time till you actually come clean?”

“Just because my answer is the same every time, I won’t change it to convince you” he answered in a raspy voice through gritted teeth.

“What do you do for a living?”

Relieved at a different question after an hour long of interrogation, he replied “I drive a taxi.”

“Do you know anyone called Sarah Jones?”

“No, I don’t”

“Well looking at your call log, it’s quite evident that you do.”

Sliding him a photograph enclosed in a clean, white envelope, he asked “Do you the woman in this photo?”

“No”, he said confidently, “I have never seen this woman in my life.”

“Ethan Gray, 35, airport taxi driver. That must be you. Read this.” The detective said, handing him a printout of what seemed like text messages.

With his hands shaking, Ethan picked up the piece of paper and started to read. It was an exchange of messages he’d never seen before.

As Ethan went through the messages, it was evident that the sender seemed to be blackmailing the recipient. As his eyes went over the messages, he froze.

His name, his details and his address, all mentioned neatly on a piece of paper and a clear photograph sent.

“Do you have anything to say, Ethan?”

Evidently quivering, he opened his mouth to say something in his defence but he wasn’t able to utter a single word.

“Mr. Wilson!”, the superintendent cried as she came running in. “Mr Wilson! Look at this!”

As the detective read through the evidence just brought in, his eyes widened.

“I cannot believe this” he muttered, dashing out of the door.

As Mr. Wilson made his way into the police jeep, he looked so confused.

“Are you telling me NOW that you traced the wrong phone?” he asked angrily. “I will make sure that whoever was responsible for this doesn’t have a job!”

There was silence and confusion in the air as the detective and his team made their way to the location the team had traced down correctly the second time.

“Come on, everyone. We have a case to investigate.” Mr. Wilson exclaimed as they made their way into the building and rushed up the flights of stairs.

Everyone, except…. The superintendent who stayed back in the jeep.

As she made sure they weren’t in earshot or couldn’t see what she was doing, she pulled out the three phones in her handbag and one, she dialled a number hastily.

“Eric, this is Olivia here. I replaced the photo provided by Mr. Jones with another one and now I’ve managed to lead them away from your twin brother, Ethan. I expect my payment in a couple of hours.”

As she said this, she put on her sunglasses and drove away with the police jeep, vanishing into the crowded roads of the city.
