Sameer was waiting for a letter since morning. Something within him told him that he would get it today. He could not concentrate on his work at office and he fidgeted around. Twice in the morning, his supervisor had looked at him suspiciously.
Now it was almost noon and as he was about to go for a cup of water from the dispenser, Mrs. Sharma came along and plopped a letter on his desk! Sameer could not believe his eyes. How correctly he guessed the letter would come today! And he knew perfectly well what was inside – it was his appointment order to join the new blue-chip company which everyone was talking about. But as he took out the letter and went through it discreetly, his heart sank. He had to report the next day morning and there was no way he could reach Bengaluru unless he took the 3PM flight that afternoon. Getting permission from his supervisor was something next to impossible.
He wished that his office would send him out for some reason. Hardly had he thought of this, there was an announcement on the PA system stating that everyone should leave the office immediately as there was some kind of political disturbance in the locality and the Police was cordoning off the area. Sameer could hardly believe his luck as he quickly grabbed his office bag and rushed out with the others.
Or, was that luck? Had his inner self started telling him what was about to happen? Sameer was suddenly afraid of wishing for anything.

Suddenly, he could hear the bell ringing from the cycle of the postman.
He jumped off his bed and ran outside to see the postman.
The postman was indeed there, he had letter to deliver to their neighbor Manoj uncle but unfortunately he did not have any letter to deliver to Sameer.
Sameer went back to his room with a heavy heart and again started waiting for the letter that would come from his beloved grandfather from their ancestral home.
