The much awaited trekking program was a perfect getaway from the humdrum of the city life, and I was thoroughly excited. It was my first trip where I would be allowed to be on my own, and especially with my friends. Hill stations were always a fanciful idea, and I wanted to go there on my own. Every child of my age needs a escaped. This was my finest chance. The school had arranged the trekking program for 40 girls and my parents had agreed to it with a lot of difficulty though. The team was set and we started for Manali, from Bhubaneswar. Through out the way I helped everyone, carrying bags, and serving snacks, handling luggage. I did every little bit I could. I was always the initiative taking person. Also, I had tried my best to help out my mother too for setting her priorities for the entire week, so that she would not be troubled in my absence. I was the star of my home, and my mum was proud of me. But yet again she was very possessive, like all other parents, and did not allow me leave the town alone anywhere. Little had I known that, misfortune would strike me in the beginning of the journey itself. As soon as the journey began, one of the girls of the troop complained of a theft in her luggage. Her purse was missing, and the escort teacher was very furious to have met with such an incident in the beginning of the journey. So she started checking everyone's luggage. Misfortune had to strike me, and the purse was found inside my bag. I myself wondered how it happened. I was humiliated to the core. But the escort teacher knew me very well, and knew I couldn't do such a thing, but still the moment held the truth, and rebuking me in front of everyone, she dismissed me from the place and segregated me from the rest of the students. Also, she debarred me from going in the expedition, and said I would stay back in the camp and go nowhere. My hopes thrashed and I was so disappointed that I cried the entire journey. In the night I tossed and turned in my berth without getting any sleep. I was accused of theft, and I simply couldn't take the allegation, especially when I did not do it. But my instinct told me, that the work was done by someone who knew as to where Asha's purse was kept. Asha was the girl, whose purse had gone missing. And also I had a intuition that this incident shall be repeated. Because, the way her purse went missing alone told that it was the work of a novice. Finally, at 2 a.m in the midnight, I heard some noise. It was a scuttling noise. As if someone was searching for something. Just then, I saw a dark figure approach my berth, It checked me for a while, and then then figuring out that I was asleep, it's hands reached for my back pack that was hanging by the window. I understood in a flash that it was the same person who stole Asha's purse. Somehow, I pulsed the courage, and suddenly I grabbed her hand and shouted on the top of my voice. All the lights went on in matter of second, and there she was standing with a purse. She was none other that Sabita, who had stole Asha's purse, and was trying to keep it inside my bag, so that she would again allege me with the theft. Finally, she was caught, and the rest was a story. But I regained my trust among everyone. The train had reached the station by the morning, and Sabita had already been punished for her theft. My good deeds had been paid in full and my prayers answered. I could now join the expedition.
